Mingle U — Privacy Policy

Who we are
Mingle U is a dating and social app for verified college students. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. By using Mingle U you agree to it.
Information we collect
- Account: your school .edu email, a password (stored only as a salted hash — we never store it in plain text), and your date of birth (to verify you are 18+).
- Profile: name, gender, school, major, class year, bio, interests, and the photos you upload.
- Activity: swipes, matches, messages you send, and any blocks or reports you make.
- Approximate location: a coarse distance used to show people near your campus. We do not track precise GPS location in the background.
- Technical: basic device and log information needed to operate and secure the service.
How we use your information
- To create your account and verify you are an eligible student (.edu + 18+).
- To show your profile to other users and power matching, messaging, and events.
- To send you account emails (verification and password-reset codes).
- To keep the community safe — reviewing reports and enforcing our Terms.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the app, under contract and only as needed:
- Database hosting (Neon) — stores your account, profile, photos, and messages.
- App hosting (Vercel) — runs our backend.
- Email delivery (Resend) — sends verification and password-reset emails.
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our users.
What other users see
Your profile (name, age, photos, bio, interests, school/major/year unless you hide them) is visible to other eligible users in your discovery deck. Messages are visible to the people you match with. Your email, date of birth, and password are never shown to other users.
Data retention
We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, photos, and messages, except where we must retain limited records to comply with law or resolve disputes.
Your rights and choices
- Access & update: edit your profile in the app at any time.
- Delete: you can delete your account, which removes your profile, photos, and messages.
- Email: manage account email preferences in Settings.
- Depending on where you live (e.g. EEA/UK/California), you may have additional rights to access, correct, or delete your data — contact us to exercise them.
Security
We protect your data with encryption in transit (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to safeguard your information.
Age requirement
Mingle U is only for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and we verify date of birth at sign-up.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If we make material changes, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
